 Leap from misery to miracle

NOTHING is as precious as good health, as many residents of our sunshine island know. Suffering from the pains and aches of advancing age, or even from serious health problems, they have left homes, families and friends in the hope that the warm and constant climate of the Canaries will bring some relief.

For many it does, but they are still holding out for the possibility that maybe one day they will find a way to actually regain their health. This is a story of a woman who has done just that.

In the midst of a full and active life, she suffered a severe case of the debilitating illness M.E. also known as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. By the time she met Master Zhixing Wang she had been almost completely bed bound by the illness for nearly four years.

At last Eva can do without her wheelchair

Eva had had to give up her work in the City and was no longer able to take part in family or social life. On the odd day that she was able to get dressed and venture outside, she could only stumble a few yards with the help of a stick.

Outings from home were rare and brief, pushed along in a wheelchair. Doctors and other medical practitioners had been unable to offer much more than sympathy and support at best, and at worst had been a waste of precious energy and money.

But now, after what Eva sees as an almost magical intervention, she is walking up to a mile a day and going from strength to strength. She has thrown away her stick and the wheelchair is gathering dust in the corner.

The key to her steady recovery is an ancient Chinese health system, called Qigong, as taught by one of its most powerful practitioners, Master Zhixing Wang.

Qigong has been widely used in China for thousands of years for the treatment of many different illnesses, including severe diseases such as cancer, but is little known in the West.

Apart from the cultivation of good health, the system is also used in martial arts and for spiritual development in Buddhist and Taoist traditions.

Eva says: "Qi means energy, in the sense of vital energy, which keeps us alive, and Gong means something like practice, so Qigong is about generating and developing life energy.

"The method consists of seemingly very simple physical, breathing and meditation exercises, and can be practised by anyone, regardless of age or ability."

Eva first started practising Qigong some 12 years ago and, after she became ill, found the exercises useful to balance out her energy. But she never experienced a profound shift in her wellbeing.

Then, two years ago, she first heard about Master Zhixing Wang helping people to recover from long-standing illnesses.

"I thought he sounded interesting." said Eva, "but I had already been to see so many different 'promising' doctors and complementary health practitioners, with so much dashed hope.

"Also, I was simply too ill to travel to one of Zhixing Wang's workshops and couldn't risk a further deterioration in my health. My consultant had told me that any over-exertion would only sustain and prolong my illness."

Nevertheless, Eva kept hearing stories about the miracles Zhixing Wang was performing, all from different and unrelated sources.

By now she and her husband had relocated to Tenerife for winter respite from pain and discomfort. And in December, having gathered enough strength from the sunshine, Eva took the plunge and went to Gran Canaria to participate in a workshop by the powerful Chinese master.

She says: "It was terribly difficult for me to go to the workshop. I had to rely on airport assistance and a lot of other help along the way. And even though much of the time during the workshop we were simply lying on the floor, it took all of my strength to take part.

"But by the end of the weekend, I was up and dancing at the group's Christmas party. I walked without a stick, didn't need to use a wheelchair at the airport, and carried my own bags. For the first time in years I felt like a normal person again, it was incredibly liberating.

"What's more, these improvements have lasted. Although I still have a long way to go to full recovery my strength and energy levels have increased by about 50 per cent and I am walking again."

Eva was also taught exercises to do at home to keep up her new energy levels.

"It felt as if, after years of my energy short circuiting, finally someone had put new fuses into my body and connected me to the socket," she said.

"I am eternally grateful to Zhixing Wang. He is a man of great integrity and I have deep respect for his powers and the compassion with which he uses them for the benefit of others."

"Having seen more than 50 different doctors and medical practitioners of one kind or another, I can say without a doubt that Zhixing Wang outshines them all."
