Qi Calligraphy Retreats 2009
Date: March 12-18, September 18-24
Qi Calligraphy is a rich practice that has various aspects and can be carried out in different ways. In previous Calligraphy retreats, the focus was on using the calligraphy as a form of healing. Through watching, holding and observing calligraphy, participants receive powerful healing, and absorb energy and information. There is less emphasis on learning it as a way of art, or as a way of Qigong.
This year, there will be two retreats on Qi Calligraphy. The first one will be used as an introduction and transmission of the Hua Gong system. The essential part of Zhixing’s calligraphy is about Hua Gong practice: the methods, the inspirations -- often in the form of poems, symbols and images derived from the practice.
By going through the calligraphy – both the old work and the new, Hua Gong can be explained in a rather systematic way. We can get an overall picture and receive the basic transmission of Hua Gong as well as receive healing treatment. Information will include the various methods used in Hua Gong, and many ‘secret tips’ on the practice. Through absorbing the energy and information, we can also experience different aspects of the Hua Gong practice such as the Five Animals, the Five Emotions, the Internal Alchemy and the Return Journey.
The second retreat will focus on training students to learn Chinese calligraphy and/or spontaneous painting, in the way the retreat known as ‘The Art of Expression’ used to function. During last year’s Calligraphy retreat, there was one session in which every student participated in painting/writing on a long roll of paper. It resulted in a very fruitful and enjoyable experience. There will be more time allocated for students to paint freely – therefore to express themselves through painting. It is both artistic and therapeutic at the same time. Students who are interested in formal Chinese calligraphy will be given more guidance and more time to practice.
By devoting more time to the Qi Calligraphy practice, it is certain that people will be able to learn more about it either as a way of art, or as a way of Qigong. The function of it as a spiritual, healing and artistic medium will be more achieved.
